The initial puffs have a strong, robust flavor that quickly fades and a pronounced peppery aftertaste. This cigar is a must-have for any cigar enthusiast, but it is not recommended for casual or inexperienced smokers. We most certainly do not advise trying this cigar for the first time. For a beginner smoker, this medium-to-full strength, full-bodied cigar is simply too strong.

Pre-Light Draw, Scent, taste and Flavor
ThePadrón 1964 Anniversary Series Torpedo has a pleasant, sweet scent before it lights up, reminiscent of dark chocolate and creamy tobacco. We removed around 2/8 of an inch from the cigar’s head.
The scent and the pre-light draw are identical. It tastes just as delicious as it smells. The surface is smooth with a subtle oily sheen; the wrapper is dark brown with a few noticeable veins.
- The thick, luxurious smoke that leaves your mouth feeling smooth is evident as soon as you ignite the cigar. The initial draws are powerful and full-bodied. The consistency of its taste is one of this gem’s unusual qualities in the premium cigar market. Since its 1994 debut, the cigar’s flavor has remained constant.
- You taste black pepper, cocoa, chocolate, and hints of woodsy and nutty flavors in the first third of the mouthful. The inherent sweetness of this particular type of aged tobacco sets it apart.
- After smoking for several minutes, the first hint of pepperiness goes away.
- The flavor changes slightly in the second third. Even with the dark chocolate, it is still creamy and delicious. The chocolate flavor is becoming more and more noticeable with each puff.
- The latter third tastes like dark chocolate again, with a nice sweet and creamy coffee flavor. There is a mild taste transition. The ash falls in one-inch pieces all during the smoking process.
- There’s virtually a straight line in the burn. Near the center, there’s a return of pepperiness along with some flavors of leather. This is the time to take off the cigar’s double band.
Source, Mix, and Vitolas
In 1994, the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Torpedo line was introduced to mark the 30th anniversary of the brand. Box-pressed cigars were used to launch the range as a tribute to Cuban culture. The tobacco leaves used to make Torpedo cigars are matured for four years. Each label on the double band has a unique number. The cigars burn evenly and have a great draw.

After six days of evaluating the cigar, our findings were definitive. We wholeheartedly concur that the Padrón 1964 is an exceptional cigar that every enthusiast for cigars ought to have in their collection.
The structure of the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Torpedo has a beautiful burn and ash backbone, and its flavor is robust and strong with a full body. Any true cigar enthusiast should own this. It truly merits Cigar Aficionado’s 97-point rating and the 2021 Cigar of the Year award.
